The last enemy that shall be destroyed is death.

Shall be - Greek (), 'is being done away with' (; cf. ). Christ's victory, already won, is earnest of the final 'abolition' of Death; the abolition is being effected continuously up to the consummation (; ). It is to believers especially this applies (); even to unbelievers death is done away with by the general resurrection. Satan brought in sin, and sin death!
