Deuteronomy 32:20

And he said, I will hide my face from them, I will see what their end shall be: for they are a very froward generation, children in whom is no faith.

And he said ... Certain words occur which make no part of the measures, or are not taken into the account of the verse. The word, "And he said," stands by itself. Then the line,

"I will hide my face from them,"

and "I will see what is their latter end,"

is the trimeter answering to it (cf. Deuteronomy 32:26. 'I said:' see Lowth's 'Preliminary Dissertations,' p. 41, also

p. 45).
