Belied - denied.

It is not he - rather, '(Yahweh) is not HE' - i:e., the true and only God (, "Art not thou HE, O Lord our God;" , "I, even I, am HE, and there is no God with me;" ; ). By their idolatry they virtually denied Him. Or, referring to what follows, and to , '(Yahweh) is not His'-namely, about to be the punisher of our sins (; ).
