Then spake the woman whose the living child was to the king, for her bowels, her motherly heart, yearned upon her son, glowing with a mother's love for her child, and she said, O my lord, give her the living child, and in no wise slay it. She preferred to have the other woman have the child rather than see it be killed. But the other, perfectly willing to see the baby put to death, for which she felt no attachment, said, Let it be neither mine nor thine, but divide it. She showed not only an absolute lack of motherly love, but also envy and dislike for her accuser.
