And the young man that told him said, As I happened by chance upon Mount Gilboa, in the confusion of the battle and of the flight, behold, Saul leaned upon his spear, apparently so exhausted and weak that he found it difficult to stand up alone; and, lo, the chariots and horsemen followed hard after him. It is here that the messenger's falsehoods begin, for it was out of the question for the chariots of the Philistines to follow the fleeing army into the hills.
