And if thy brother be waxen poor, and fallen in decay with thee, having failed entirely in his business, then thou shalt relieve him, yea, though he be a stranger or a sojourner, that he may live with thee. Here provision is made for the second contingency, namely, that connected with a man's having sold himself into bondage on account of poverty. The paragraph is introduced with an admonition to help the poor brother who is in need of financial assistance.
