He was leaving behind a secure government post and the possibility of great wealth, but it counted as nothing to him compared with the privilege that was now his. It was evidence of his genuine turning to God. ‘Follow Me' always indicates lifetime commitment (compare John 1:43; Mark 1:17) as the future makes clear.
