“ But I say to you, it will be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon in the day of judgment than for you.”

And the consequence of the failure of the Jews to respond to His Messianic works in repentance is that when they face the Day of Judgment, they will be found guilty of more heinous behaviour than the despised Tyre and Sidon. Tyre and Sidon will not be found guilty of so great a crime as they are guilty of, rejecting the testimony of God to His Son (compare John 3:16).

‘I say to you.' These words always indicate the importance of the statement being made, for it demonstrates that it is made by Him on His own authority as the Chosen One of God.
