1 Chronicles 26:1-32

Further Levitical Temple Officials. These include the gatekeepers (1 Chronicles 26:1), those who were over the treasuries (1 Chronicles 26:20), and the officers and judges who were for the outward business over Israel (1 Chronicles 26:29).

1 Chronicles 26:12 ff. In what the Chronicler says about the Temple he is guided by the Temple with which he was familiar, viz. the post-exilic one built by Zerubbabel.

1 Chronicles 26:18. Parbar: see RVm; perhaps from a Persian word meaning that which is light; i.e. an open structure on the western side of the Temple. This is, however, uncertain. Whether the word has anything to do with parvarim (translated precincts in RV) in 2 Kings 23:11, is doubtful.

1 Chronicles 26:20. Although two kinds of treasuries are mentioned, those of the house of God and those of the dedicated things, the latter were but a part of the former.

1 Chronicles 26:23. The names are obviously those of families, not of individuals, for a grandson of Moses could not have been living in the reign of David (1 Chronicles 26:24), nor could representatives of six generations have been contemporaries (1 Chronicles 26:25).

1 Chronicles 26:29. the outward business over Israel: by this is probably meant the business of collecting taxes for both civil and ecclesiastical purposes from Israelites living outside of Palestine proper.
