Solomon’s wealth

I. Wealth derived from trading speculations.

II. Wealth acquired in opposition to God’s commands (Deuteronomy 17:16). He must trust in the Lord God, not in chariots and horses (Psalms 20:7).

III. Wealth therefore risky in its possesion. Prosperity of Solomon his great misfortune. The smallest departure from rectitude may lead to grievous errors and fearful miseries. (J. Wolfendale.)
