Psalms 119:22-24

Remove from me reproach and contempt; for I have kept Thy testimonies.

Social contempt and conscious rectitude

I. Social contempt (verse 22).

1. Is a thing to be deprecated.

2. Is a thing not always to be deserved. It is a characteristic of wicked society, that it condemns the good.

II. Conscious rectitude (verses 23, 24). Contrast social contempt with conscious rectitude.

1. The one is painful, the other pleasing.

2. The one depressing, the other elevating. (Homilist.)
