Who then is a faithful and wise servant, whom his lord hath made ruler over his household, to give them meat in due season?

Ver. 45. Who then is a faithful and wise servant] So every man ought to be, but ministers especially, who should so far surpass others in these good qualities, as Saul did the people, than whom he was higher by head and shoulders. They should be faithful in all God's house as servants, as stewards and dispensers of the mysteries of God, to give to every man his portion, his due measure of food, σιτομετριον , Luk 12:42 and that which is fit for him, not (as he in the emblem did) straw to the dog, and a bone to the ass, &c., but to every one his portion, 1 Corinthians 4:1 .
