προνοοῦμεν γάρ (אBDFGP, Latt. Arm.) rather than προνοούμενοι (CEL), which is adopted in the Rec. and A.V.

21. προνοοῦμεν γὰρ καλά. For we take forethought for things honourable. See critical note. For the remainder of the verse comp. Romans 12:17, where the same quotation from Proverbs 3:4 is found.

ἀλλὰ καὶ ἐνώπιον�. But also in the sight of men. He must not only be honest, but be seen to be honest. This is quoted by Polycarp (6); comp. 2 Corinthians 3:2; 2 Corinthians 4:14.
