Acts 25:1

ἐπιβὰς τῇ ἐπαρχίᾳ, was come into the province. This may either mean ‘when he had reached Cæsarea,’ to which, as the seaport, he would naturally come first; or, with margin of the Rev. Vers., ‘when he had entered upon his province.’ The former seems to be the preferable sense because of what follows.

ἐπαρχία, which only occurs in N.T. here and in Acts 23:34, is common in the Apocryphal Acts. Cf. Acta Petri et Pauli, §§ 3, 5, &c.

μετὰ τρεῖς ἡμέρας�, after three days he went up. Festus took a very short time to make himself acquainted with what would be his principal residence, and then went up to visit the Capital.
