ἀναστὰς πορεύσομαι πρὸς τὸν πατέρα μου. The ἀναστὰς is pictorial, comp. Acts 5:17; Mark 1:35, &c. The youth in the parable had loved his father, and would not doubt about His father’s love; and in the region which the parable shadows forth, the mercy of God to the returning penitent has always been abundantly promised. Isaiah 55:7; Jeremiah 3:12; Hosea 14:1-2, &c.; and throughout the whole New Testament.
