There might also be eaten any beast with both of these marks:

that parteth the hoof, and hath the hoof cloven in two Lit. and cleaveth a cleft of two hoofs. The hoof must be entirelycloven (see below on camel);

and cheweth the cud Heb. bringeth up the gerah, Ar. girrah, so called from either the straining or the gurgling of the process.
