paintedst thy eyes This refers to the practice of colouring the edges of the eyelids with a dark powder (stibium), which made the eye itself appear large and brilliant, 2 Kings 9:30; Jeremiah 4:30. The word kahalis Arab., and the root of Alcohol; the Heb. is pûch(Isaiah 54:11); Job's daughter bore the name Keren-hap-puch, horn of paint.
