He who may approach Jehovah's sanctuary must be one -who hath not lifted up his soul unto vanity" (Psalms 24:4). Jehovah, and Jehovah alone, is the subject of his desires, his aspirations, his prayers. Cp. Psalms 86:3; Psalms 143:8; Lamentations 3:41.

As the verses are usually distichs, it has been conjectured with much probability that the line "on thee do I wait all the day," which overweights Psalms 25:5, originally belonged to Psalms 25:1; Psalms 25:3 agains point by this transposition.
