(1:4) "For He chose us..." (Thank you Father for not leaving it up to me) identifies the Father as the One who made the choice to claim us individually as His own. The middle voice verb says that the Father chose us for Himself. "...in Him..." refers back to the previous verse "in Christ", and identifies Christ as the One in whom we are placed. We are now located, or found to be, "in Christ", joined completely and irreversibly to Him, just as a bride is irrevocably joined to her husband and he to she. Divorce, you see, does not represent what is actually true.Positional Sanctification - We are joined to Christ and share Christ's being set-apart as the perfect sacrifice for sin. This occurs the very moment we believe and is declared to be so from "before the creation of the world".Experiential Sanctification - We are living in light of our having been joined to Christ. The means by which that is accomplished is to "reckon (declare) ourselves to be dead to Sin", to live in freedom from condemnation and under the grace of God's provision to His Son.Ultimate Sanctification - To be in a glorified, resurrection body. This will occur when we are transported to the Rapture where the Bride (the Church) will be claimed by the Groom as His own for all eternity.
