For I am the least. That is, by human standards, because he persecuted the church. Schmiedel thinks that TO EKTROMA was one of the insulting names pinned on Paul by the circumcision party; and that he takes this as his title and gives it a new meaning. Paul probably repeats their charge in a sense of irony. But it is also true that he never forgot that he had once persecuted Christ's church (even though he knew he had been forgiven).
