1 John 3:3

1 John 3:3. "And every man that hath this hope in Him purifieth himself, even as He is pure." That is, in God or in Christ, the Person spoken of in the foregoing words ep a?t?. The preposition ep? expresses, not the relation of hope to the subject of it, but to its object, as in many places of the New Testament. It signifies the relation of faith, trust, and hope to this object, as Matthew 27:43, "He trusted in God;" Luke 11:22, "Wherein he trusted;" Luke 18:9, "Trusted in themselves;" Luke 24:25, "To believe all the prophets," etc.; Acts 9:42, "Many believed in the Lord;" Acts 11:17, "Who believed in the Lord;" Acts 16:31, "Believe in the Lord Jesus;" Romans 4:24, "Believe in Him;" Romans 9:33, "Believeth in Him;" Romans 10:11, "Believeth in Him;" Romans 10:13, "In Him shall the Gentiles hope;" 2 Corinthians 1:9, "Should not trust in ourselves, but in God;" 2 Corinthians 2:3, "Confidence in you all;" 1 Timothy 1:16, "Believe on Him;" 1 Timothy 4:16, "Hoped in the living God;" 1 Timothy 5:5, "Hoped in God;" 1 Timothy 6:17, "Hope in uncertain riches;" Hebrews 2:13, "Trusting in Him;" Hebrews 6:1, "Of faith in God;" 1 Peter 2:6, "He that believeth in Him," and 1 Peter 3:5, "Hoped in God."
