Eph. 5:18. "And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit." The Apostle here seems to have reference to that in Song of Solomon 5:1, "I am come into my garden, my sister, my spouse: I have gathered my myrrh with my spice; I have eaten my honeycomb with my honey; I have drunk my wine with my milk; eat, O friends; drink, yea, drink abundantly, O beloved." He was afraid that they would misunderstand that as a liberty to Christ's beloved ones to be drunk with wine; but he explains the meaning of it to them. - Coroll. Hence we may learn the authority of that book of Song of Solomon.
