Exo. 14:30. "Dead upon the sea-shore." The Egyptians were very nice and curious in embalming and preserving the bodies of their great men, [and erecting stately sepulchers and monuments for them;] but here the utmost contempt is poured upon all the grandees of Egypt. See how they lie heaps upon heaps, as the dung upon the face of the earth. The beasts and birds of prey are called to eat the flesh of captains and mighty men (Isaiah 66:24). Probably the Israelites stripped the slain and now got arms from them.
