Isa. 34:16. The book of the Lord here meant is this Book, or the book of this prophecy wherein the things in the two foregoing verses are mentioned, as appears by comparing these words with the foregoing and following. When it is said here, "Seek ye out the book of the Lord," etc., the meaning is, hereafter, when the event shall prove whether this prophecy be true or no, then read this book and examine this prophecy and compare it with the event and see if anything fails. See if any one of these "doleful creatures" fails of possessing Idumea and Bozrah, and every one with their mate - i.e., see if the prophecy be not most exactly fulfilled. - Corol. Hence the Books of the Prophets should be regarded by the Church of God as part of the Canon of Sacred Scriptures as well as the Book of Moses. They are the "books of the Lord," or Biblia.
