Rom. 3:25, 26. "Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in His blood, to declare His righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God; to declare, I say, at this time His righteousness; that He might be just, and the justifier of him which believeth in Jesus." Sins that are past, i.e., that were committed in past ages, before Christ died, as Romans 9:15, "For he saith to Moses, I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion." And therefore it follows in Romans 3:26, "To declare, I say, at this time His righteousness; that He might be just, and the justifier of him which believeth in Jesus." Before, the Apostle was speaking of past ages; the righteousness of God in pardoning their sins then committed was not fully declared, then, in the time, but now it is at " this time."
