Asa entered into an alliance with Ben-hadad, at the cost of the temple and his palace. This helped Asa withstand the threat from Baasha, but Asa’s action reflected a lack of faith in the Lord, who already had delivered him from a greater threat (2 Chronicles 16:8). Such foreign alliances are condemned in 2 Chronicles 20:35; 2 Chronicles 22:5.
