2 KINGS—NOTE ON 2 Kings 16:7 I am your servant. Rather than turning to the Lord for help, Ahaz agrees to be ruled by Assyria. Ahaz asks for Assyria’s help, which arrives in the form of the Assyrian campaigns of 733–732 B.C. in Syria-Palestine. (See 2 Kings 15:27 and note.) Kir was the original home of the people of Syria (Amos 9:7), somewhere in Mesopotamia.
