2 KINGS—NOTE ON 2 Kings 23:4 The eastern slopes of the Kidron Valley had been associated with idolatry since the time of Solomon (1 Kings 11:7). It was a convenient place to destroy cult objects, thereby desecrating the valley itself as a religious site. On male cult prostitutes (2 Kings 23:7), see note on 1 Kings 14:24. The hangings for the Asherah (2 Kings 23:7) are probably ritual garments used in the worship of this goddess (compare 2 Kings 10:22).
