AMOS—NOTE ON Amos 4:1 This second oracle (see note on 2:6–6:14) is composed of three parts. In Amos 4:1, Amos expands somewhat on the points made in Amos 3:14: the sins of self-indulgence and oppression (Amos 4:1) and of false religion (vv. Amos 4:4). In vv. Amos 4:6, the Lord describes all the ways in which he has appealed in vain for the Israelites to return to him. As a result, they will come face to face with the infinite Creator in all his power (vv. Amos 4:12).
