EZEKIEL—NOTE ON Ezekiel 14:12 Five distinct paragraphs make up this oracle. The first four describe four forms of divine judgment on Jerusalem: famine (vv. Ezekiel 14:12); beasts (vv. Ezekiel 14:15); sword (vv. Ezekiel 14:17); and pestilence (vv. Ezekiel 14:19). The final paragraph provides a summary and holds open the possibility that a remnant will be spared (vv. Ezekiel 14:21). All five paragraphs emphasize the accountability of each person for his or her own life. Compare Ezekiel 3:16 and ch. Ezekiel 18:1.
