EZEKIEL—NOTE ON Ezekiel 40:28 Ezekiel’s guide then leads him into the inner court by way of the south gate (v. Ezekiel 40:28). The descriptions are briefer since the design is repeated from the outer gates. The sequence now is south gate (vv. Ezekiel 40:28), east gate (vv. Ezekiel 40:32), and north gate (vv. Ezekiel 40:35). This area is reserved for priestly use. The furnishings and tools used in sacrificial ceremonies are described in vv. Ezekiel 40:38. The chambers used by two classes of ministering priests (see Ezekiel 44:9) are found in the north and south gates (Ezekiel 40:44). Ezekiel and his guide then approach the central structure of the inner court, the temple building itself (vv. Ezekiel 40:48). With 10 steps (v. Ezekiel 40:49; compare vv. Ezekiel 40:22, Ezekiel 40:31), it is the tallest of any set of stairs.
