Genesis 46:31-34

GENESIS—NOTE ON Genesis 46:31 Joseph prepares his brothers for a possible meeting with Pharaoh. To guarantee that they will be given the land of Goshen, he tells them to say they are keepers of livestock (which would include cattle and sheep) and that this is their traditional occupation. every shepherd is an abomination to the Egyptians (v. Genesis 46:34). The reason for the Egyptians’ dislike of shepherds is unknown.
