Job 32:1 Elihu: Suffering as a Discipline. A new speaker, Elihu, is introduced (Job 32:1), followed by an uninterrupted record of his speeches (Job 32:6). These include an announcement of his intention to speak (Job 32:6), an initial challenge to Job (ch. Job 33:1), a general dispute against what Job has asserted (ch. Job 34:1), a description of Job’s place before God (ch. Job 35:1), and a lengthy section that describes and defends God’s majesty (chs. Job 36:1). Some scholars believe that Elihu’s viewpoint in the dialogue is closest to that of God himself, but there is no hint of this in the chapters recording the Lord’s own words (chs. Job 38:1).
