JOSHUA—NOTE ON Joshua 21:43 These verses should be understood as a summary statement emphasizing the Lord’s decisive action on behalf of Israel. They are not saying that all of Israel’s enemies had been removed from the land. Although Israel had taken possession of the land and settled there, much work remained to be done (see Joshua 23:5). Still, the Lord has been utterly true to his good promises.
