PROVERBS—NOTE ON Proverbs 13:1 The present section of Proverbs 1:1 (Proverbs 10:1) began with a call to be a wise son (compare Proverbs 10:1). This present sub-section (Proverbs 13:1) uses word play (compare Proverbs 10:6) relating to speech (hears/listen, Proverbs 13:1; mouth, vv. Proverbs 13:2; lips, v. Proverbs 13:3; falsehood, v. Proverbs 13:5) and eating or desire (eats, v. Proverbs 13:2; desire, v. Proverbs 13:2; craves and richly supplied, v. Proverbs 13:4). Those who seek to guard their mouth (v. Proverbs 13:3) through righteousness (v. Proverbs 13:6) are assured that such a path will have a positive impact on their heart and actions.
