Zion as the special city. God has pledged himself to her, and through
her he will bless the world. The psalm has two stanzas, marked by a

PSALM—NOTE ON PSALMS 46:8 Since BE STILL, AND KNOW THAT I AM GOD is
plural, readers should imagine God speaking these words to the
NATIONS. This will be the means by which he MAKES WARS CEASE. THE LORD
OF HOSTS IS WITH US. He will ensure that the mission of Genesis 12:1
is accomplished.
