Psalm PSALM—NOTE ON Psalms 52:1. The faithful develop confidence in God’s care and protection, particularly when surrounded by ruthless enemies. The title sets the psalm during David’s flight from Saul (1 Samuel 21:1), which led to Doeg’s slaughtering the priests who had helped David (1 Samuel 22:9). Doeg is thus an example of the enemies the faithful might face.
