Psalm PSALM—NOTE ON Psalms 59:1. This is an individual lament, seeking God’s protection from enemies who threaten the faithful person’s life. The title connects the psalm to 1 Samuel 19:11, where David escaped from Saul’s men through a window. The psalm is geared for the particular case in which the hostility is “for no fault of mine” (Psalms 59:4). The song has two sections (vv. Psalms 59:1, Psalms 59:11). The first section is a cry for help, and the second section expresses confidence that God will protect the singer.
