σπλαγχνισθεὶς. Note the frequent reference to Christ's pity in this gospel (Matthew 9:36; Matthew 14:14; Matthew 15:32, and here). τῶν ὀμμάτων, a synonym for ὀφθαλμῶν, as if with some regard to style which the scribes might have been expected to appreciate, but have not (ὀφθ., thrice, T.R.). ὄμμα is poetic in class. Greek. ἠκολούθησαν, they followed Him, like the rest, without guide (sine hodego, Beng.), so showing at once that their eyes were opened and their hearts grateful.
