Eighth Passage (3:21-26). The Fact by which Justification by Faith is acquired for us.

We have already proved that Romans 3:21 is directly connected in sense with Romans 1:17 (see p. 99). In the interval from. 18 to Romans 3:20, the apostle has shown that the wrath of God rests on mankind, whence it follows that if the world is not to perish, a divine manifestation of an opposite kind, and able to overcome the first, is indispensable. It is this new revelation which forms the subject of the following passage. Vv.21 and 22 contain the theme of the first piece, and at the same time of the whole section. Romans 3:23 once more sums up the thought of the preceding section; and Romans 3:24-26 are the development of the subject, the exposition of the new way of justification.
