'Fortunatus' -(for chuh NAY tus) (fortunate).

'Achaicus' -(uh KAY ih cus) (belonging to Achaia). Apparently these three men brought the letter (1 Corinthians 7:1) from Corinth to Paul.

'for that which was lacking on your part they supplied' -'because they have done what you had no chance to do' (NEB); 'for they have made up for your absence' (Ber) (1 Peter 2:30) 'These filled up my lack of you' (Robertson p. 203)

Most take this as meaning, that these three men filled. void which had been caused by Paul's absence from Corinth. He couldn't see the Corinthians at this time, but he could see these three faithful Christians from Corinth.
