Jewish background, who had been told all their lives that Gentiles were dogs, fuel for the fires of hell, sub-humans, and now they see that Jews and Gentiles stand before God on an equal basis. "They of the circumcision" The Christians of Jewish background who had come with Peter, that is, the brethren from Joppa (Acts 10:23). '"The considerations which caused the amazement were: first, that the Holy Spirit was 'poured out' upon them directly from God, as it had never before been on any but the apostles, and secondly, that this unusual gift was bestowed on Gentiles" (Reese p. 402).
