Acts 11:17

"When we believed" "God had made no difference between believing Gentiles and believing Jews; how could Peter maintain. barrier which God plainly did not recognize?" (Bruce p. 236). "Who was I?" "Who was. to try to stand in God's way"(Rieu) Peter clearly did not view himself as one who could change God's will or make up rules for the Church. This last remark clearly infers that Peter would have been standing in God's way had he refused to baptize Cornelius and his household. Thus refusing to teach that water baptism is necessary for salvation is standing in God's way.
