and believers were the more added to the Lord, multitudes both of men and women;

'WERE THE MORE ADDED'-'Imperfect, signifying the continuous growth of the Church.' (Gr. Ex. N.T. p. 146) 'were constantly added' (NASV)

'TO THE LORD'-Compare with Acts 2:47. To be. member of the church was to be in. right relationship with the Lord. In addition, since the people of Acts 2:41 were only "added" after being baptized, that verse infers that the "believers" in the above verse were also baptized.

'MULTITUDES BOTH OF MEN AND WOMEN'-'Although the judgement of God on Ananias and Sapphira had the effect of deterring hypocrites...yet still the number of true converts was increased. An effort to keep the church pure by wholesome discipline, rather than weakening the true strength of the congregation, has. tendency to increase its numbers and its consecration to the Lord.'
