"Because in much wisdom there is much grief, and increasing knowledge results in increasing pain."Because" -this is one reason why intellectual stimulation, academic pursuits fail to bring lasting happiness. There is. small amount of truth in the statement that ignorance is bliss. The more Solomon learned, the greater his pain and grief. The more you learn about the world, the more injustices you will find. Even though he is. wise man, in fact more capable than all before him, he still stands completely helpless in the sight of so many of the problems among his own people. Mere bible knowledge can also greatly increase our pain when we realize that the vast majority of the people that we will meet are lost! (Matthew 7:13-14). Hence, happiness, meaning and purpose require something more than mere knowledge of the facts.
