"For the fate of the sons of men and the fate of beasts is the same. As one dies so dies the other; indeed, they all have the same breath and there is no advantage for man over beast, for all is vanity."the fate" -not the spiritual fate (Ecclesiastes 12:7), but only the physical fate is in view here. The "same breath" refers to the physical side of life and it isn't talking about the spirit in man. On the physical level, man doesn't have. lasting advantage over the animals. For he returns to the dust, just like them. Remove the idea that man is created in the image of God and all distinction between the life of man and the life of an animal disappears. Both animals and man share physical life, here called "breath" (Genesis 6:17).
