Although the overwhelming mass of witnesses (all except a* A I 33 1175 syrpal) read evqnw/n, the Committee regarded the word as a gloss introduced by copyists from the parallel passage in 1 Timothy 2:7, there being no good reason to account for its omission if it were original here.
