Mark 14:5 evpa,nw {A}

It has been argued that evpa,nw is a second-century addition that reflects the depreciation of currency after the time of Nero. If that were the case, however, one would expect early rather than late Greek evidence in support of the shorter reading. It is more probable that several copyists and/or translators omitted evpa,nw either because they objected to its colloquial usage (see Blass-Debrunner-Funk, § 185) or because they were influenced by the parallel account in John 12:5, where the word is not used.
