A majority of the Committee preferred the reading ivdw,n to eivdw,j because (a) the latter appears to be a correction of the former (“seeing” another’s thoughts seems to be a less appropriate expression than “knowing” them), and (b) ivdw,n, which corresponds to the statement in ver. Matthew 9:2, was more likely to be altered to eivdw,j through recollection of evpignou,j in the parallel accounts ( Mark 2:8 and Luke 5:22) than vice versa.
