Revelation 1:8 +W {A}

After +W 2 the Textus Receptus, following a* 1 (2344) itgig, ar vg al, adds avrch. kai. te,loj, and twenty other minuscules add h` avrch. kai. to. te,loj. If the longer text were original no good reason can be found to account for the shorter text, whereas the presence of the longer expression in Revelation 21:6 obviously prompted some copyists to expand the text here.


2 It will be noticed that in the Greek text alpha is spelled out, whereas omega is represented by the letter. The reason for this difference arises from the fact that Greek grammarians did not invent the name w= me,ga (in distinction from o' mikro,n) until long after the Apocalypse had been written (see Metzger, Manuscripts of the Greek Bible [Oxford, 1981], p. 6, note 13).
